Adulting Handbook
for Beginners:
Graduation Edition

Congratulations, you have made it through that monumental waste of time known as high school only to realize that the stuff they should have taught was left for your parents to teach you. Unfortunately for you, your parents failed to teach you these lessons thinking you will learn it in school, learn it from your friends, or more likely, they didn’t even realize you did not innately possess this knowledge from birth.

I know this since you are reading this manual. This is designed to address the basic skills that you will need to function in our society and will give you the checklist to handle the mundane to the complex. A major portion of this handbook will deal with vehicles since this will be a major expense and liability at this phase of your life. The other chapters will address other items that are pertinent for that 17 to 23-year-old that is now or will be on their own soon.

Remember when you used to say: “I can’t wait to be big!” If you knew then what you are discovering now, you would not be in such a hurry to take on the new responsibilities. Welcome to the massive world of Adulting, sorry to break it to you but your problems are just getting started. Let’s begin…..

What to Expect

This is a general handbook for getting out on your own, it was created to get you started and act as a resource for many fundamental skills necessary to build the foundation of confidence and independence needed to survive in today’s society.

Acknowledgment

I want to thank Mason Bean Richardson, a gifted artist and the inspiration for this book. Bean created the character: Macy the Dog throughout this book. The events, characters, namely “Macy the Dog” and firms depicted in the following pages of this book are not fictitious. Any similarity to actual persons, living or dead, or to the actual Macy the Dog is purely intentional.

Thanks to my family and friends that encouraged and inspired me to stay on track and produce this work. Without your valuable input and critique, it would not contain the valuable information to help our kids navigate the mine field of transitioning to adulthood.

“There are three kinds of people in this world: Those who make things happen, those who watch things happen and those that ask: what happened?”
